Is French your mother tongue?
Yes, I was born in France and have lived in the South of France all my life until 2001. Then, I finished my degree in the UK (Manchester) and worked there and in Australia for many years (Sydney and Adelaide). I came back to France in 2017 and now live in La Garde-Freinet.
What kind of French accent do you have?
Tricky question. I would say fairly neutral. French people aren’t usually able to connect my accent to a particular region. Every French person has an accent of some sort (yes, it’s true even Parisians). I grew up in the South so I have a mildly Southern accent.
How long before I can converse in French fluently?
This will depend on:
This looks interesting, but I feel uncomfortable about learning French through Skype or Zoom… and by the way, I don’t know how to use Skype!
Videoconferencing tools like Skype or Zoom can sound daunting at first. However, it is much easier than you think.
Skype/Zoom is a FREE software which allows you to make free video calls to friends and family anywhere in the world. All you need is an email address to set it up.
The experience of learning via Skype is very similar to having private face-to-face tuition. The picture and sound quality are excellent with a broadband connexion. I can help you improve your pronunciation and review your homework. During the lesson, the Skype’s messenger allows us to chat as if we were in the same room.

This will depend on:
- whether you learned French at school. You might think you’ve forgotten most of it but you will be surprised how fast it will come back to you
- how much homework you can do between lessons (there is no secret recipe. More preparation, more progress)
- your learning pace and the time you are able to dedicate to learning French
- your exposure to the rules of grammar in your own language (your progress will be faster if you are familiar with grammatical terms. It is helpful but not compulsory)
- your knowledge of a foreign language. Bilingual people (in Italian, Spanish or Portuguese) usually learn French with ease as Latin languages share common roots (gender distinction, similar grammar rules etc)
- whether you have lived in France or a French-speaking territory for a period of time.

When it comes to how you want to set up your French program, nothing is off limits.
I only have 3 golden rules in place:
- Rescheduling: I am very flexible. I only need 24 hours’ notice to arrange another time slot. Drop me an email or text me. I may be able to arrange a last minute “spirit of the moment” session if you feel like it.
- No show: you will be charged for the lesson.
- Punctuality: I will wait up to 30 minutes for you. If you are late, the lesson will still finish on time. I will most likely have another appointment after yours, so adding extra time will rarely be possible unless previously agreed.
